#12. A Post About Nothing

Updated: Jan 22, 2023

I will sum up our weekend with a haiku:

Weather derailed plans.

Then the family gets sick.

Bring on the next year.

Our Christmas season was not all bad. My wife, our 2-year-old son, and I had a great time spending the weekend together, Santa still came, and we were able to have ham for Christmas dinner.

With the weather and our family battling a sickness, my blog writing time was spent doing other things.

Moving forward, I scheduled a post for this Friday detailing how to properly do a net worth statement, why it is necessary, and what our net worth is currently. Then, for the first post in 2023, I will let the world know more about our family and our investment journey.

Therefore, as the title suggests, this is a post about nothing.

Here are some little nuggets of wisdom to begin 2023 ahead.

  1. Spend less than you make, and the rest will start to sort itself out.

  2. Do not avoid having the money talk with your spouse or significant other.

  3. Teach your children about finances – traditional education will not do this for you.

  4. Budgeting is not for nerds; it is necessary when starting your journey to financial success.

  5. Strict budgeting is not necessary for the rest of your life. Once you get in the habit and know how much you should spend on certain things, just keeping track of the amount of money in your bank account each month should be enough.

  6. The best gift you can give your children is not money, it is the gift of being able to take care of your own self financially later in life, so they do not have to.

  7. Time is more important than money.

  8. Money is a tool to obtain more time, that is it.

  9. Do not chase more money just to see your net worth increase, chase more money to achieve a higher cause, such as being able to travel around the world with your wife and 10-year-old son (just one example of many).

  10. Do not be afraid to start something. Just do it.

  11. Do not be a victim to analysis paralysis.

  12. Complication will find you, so do not seek it out.

  13. Do not waste your mistakes and failures. Acknowledge them, then learn from them.

Well, there you have it. Some words of wisdom to end 2022 the right way and start 2023 with a bang.

Thanks for sticking with me to this point!
