Here I am, sitting in front of my computer on a Sunday night. I am sad that the Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. I am also having a hard time thinking about anything other than dread for the upcoming work week. But I am still here, sitting in front of my computer and keeping to my blog schedule.
There are a few things in life you can do to set you apart from others. A small minority of people are generally born with better physical abilities. You might hear those people called "naturally gifted". However, the majority of us do not have the luxury.
So, what is one thing that we can start today to help set us apart from others?
Show Up
When I say show up, I am not just talking in relation to work. I am also talking about showing up in all other aspects of your life. If you are a husband, be a husband to your wife. If you are a father, be a father to your child. If anyone else relies on you, make sure to fulfill your responsibilities.
On the surface, showing up appears simple. However, the reason showing up puts you on another level is because so much of the population cannot accomplish this seemingly simple task.
Although showing up has the appearance of being a mundane and routine task, it is sometimes quite difficult to accomplish.
Life is not easy. You can make every effort to keep life straightforward and manageable, but there will always be something to help complicate things. Whether that is a sick child at home that keeps you up all night on a weekday or a vehicle that fails to start. It is no challenge to find an excuse to keep you from showing up.
Okay, cool. Showing up is important. Now what?
The original title of this article was "Monday Motivation." I was planning to write a series of uplifting and motivational quotes to help everyone kick ass this week. When I finished my first paragraph though, I quickly changed the title and direction of the article.
Start today making a conscious effort to show up in all aspects of your life, whichever metaphorical hat you are wearing. Doing anything in life in a conscious manner makes it easier to accomplish.
Once you master this ability, start excelling at your roles and show up and show out in a positive way!**

**According to the Macmillan Dictionary, to "show out" means to attend a place and make an impression on the people there.
